But is it being kept from us, out of fear the public will realise that all disease is caused by how our own genetic profile interacts with substances in our environment.
Nobody think taking benzos is a magic bullet for anything, please. I’ve had 16 yrs of hell trying to get off of them taken exactly as directed due to tolerance withdrawal. This means after 1-2 weeks (if not immediately) your body wants & needs more for same effect. Then you are screwed. I’ve known too many people like me whose lives have been ruined by these terrible drugs. It should be illegal for Drs to prescribe over 2 weeks, max.
My situation is obviously different to yours. Last night I forgot to take them as my cns didn’t need suppressing. It didn’t lead to withdrawals or cravings or any negative effects. We are all different and have different genetics and susceptibilities. The effects on one person may be entirely different than the effects on another person. The only people I know who have a problem with them are people who take more than they are prescribed. I get no narcotic type effect from them at all and no relaxing feeling. Those who do, often think that if the narcotic effect or relaxing effect stops, it means they need to increase their dose. If they are taking it as a cns suppressant this is a fallacy. Many have the same idea about codeine but with long term codeine use, you don’t get a narcotic effect but still get the painkilling benefits. Same with medical cannabis.
A good drug to me, is one that you get benefits, without changing how you feel like a narcotic effect. I’ve also found that if I don’t need a drug anymore, I don’t get withdrawals. I know someone on morphine for 15 years to enable him to work. After he retired he didn’t need them anymore as he wasn’t in pain so he stopped taking them with no withdrawal symptoms. Probably because they have no pain anymore so are not anxious about missing a dose. If our body no longer needs something, we automatically stop reaching for it. Perhaps they shouldn’t be prescribed for anxiety as they don’t cure anxiety so the body will always require them and any attempt to come off them will give them withdrawal symptoms because they still need them. If someone’s metabolism still needs a certain substance, it will do everything it can to stop the patient from stopping the medication (withdrawal symptoms)
I’m not talking about abusing benzos or addiction. I’m talking about taking benzos as prescribed- long term it’s dangerous. These drugs are only safe for short term use, period. You can gamble with your life and your brain if you like but please don’t encourage other people to do so. This is the HUGE mistake people make, thinking benzos are safe if taken as precautions- they are not. They can’t be for anyone. Your body chemically immediately starts to build a tolerance and a dependency on them, making it nearly impossible to get off them once you finally realize all the damage you are doing. By then it will take years of very slow taper to safely withdrawal and even then your brain and CNS is damaged and your problems will return but worse than before in addiction to all the other nightmare withdrawal symptoms that may never go away. Permanent damage to the CNS. Is it worth it??? That’s up to you.
It’s worth it over suffering and death yes. You respond to medications how you respond. I respond to medications how I respond. It wouldn’t matter if I was on them the rest of my life. I probably will be unless I can’t get the bone cement removed.
Remember, I’m not taking them for anxiety, I’m taking them for mast cell issues. I haven’t had to raise the amount I’m on and I’ve been on them for a long time. I’m also on adrenaline injections everyday. You need to realise that not everyone is like you. I have no urge to increase them and unless I get the bone cement removed I’ll be on them til I die, which could be sooner than later. Perhaps you need to understand that people are different and have different requirements.
What would you suggest instead to stop the hypersensitivity reaction and cardiac issues. And if you think not eating meat is wrong, what do you suggest I eat?
Re: "Environmental illness is symptoms caused by being exposed to something in our environment." Environmental illness can also be caused by a deficiency in our environment. A deficiency of sunlight can cause SAD. A deficiency of oxygen can cause shortness of breath. An environment full of toxic air can also be viewed as a deficiency of clean, healthy air.
OMG Benzos are SO dangerous. Be careful. You are absolutely nuts to promote this. I am literally on a plane right now to help my 44 year old PhD nephew who is completely bedridden and on medical disability because of the damage Benzos have done to his body. Beware.
I expect my readers to have the intellect to be able to read and know what “is” means. I haven’t had much flack about this post. It was after all written for discussion. It’s only those who don’t know what “is” means that seem to have a problem and get all upset because they had bad responses to lorazepam in the past.
I’ve cancelled home help, can now mow the lawns and do the garden and can carry my own groceries. And my o2 saturation doesn’t plummet everyday and I don’t have tachycardia everyday. Lorazepam has greatly improved my quality of life and health and has lowered my risk of a heart attack. Lowering my sensitivity to the environment has made huge improvements as I knew it would, as I’ve been prescribed it as a cns suppressant multiple times as per my article.
I haven’t promoted anything. I’ve posed a question. It is prescribed in me as a cns suppressant so that I can have some quality of life and lift my groceries without my o2 saturation plummeting and losing muscle strength. What damage did benzos do to him if you don’t mind me asking?
Yes I know I have mitochondrial problems since my adverse event to Cortoss bone cement but I can’t do anything about it until I can get the bone cement removed. The toxins build up in my body faster than my body can remove them. This is what a poisoning is. I recently tried ASEA Redox which is to help mitochondria problems but it caused a detox reaction and I had to stop on day two. Currently trying to find a surgeon to remove the bone cement overseas. You say you are suffering the same thing and I agree. Your mitochondria cannot handle the amount of metals implanted in you. Just like with me. Replacing my composite fillings with metal free ceramics caused huge improvements. Removing things from the body is the only way to improve immune function. Every year thousands of people are tested and diagnosed with hypersensitivities to metals just like Robert. They get the metals removed and their symptoms vanish. It also gives their immune system more free resources to battle other problems. Some have reported that after getting metal implants removed, their body was suddenly able to clear lymes. I’d suggest you do the same by getting an LTT test to see what metals or bone cement you have become hypersensitive to. I don’t need to read Dr Mercolas book. I’ve been successful with my health by making my own decisions which are usually in opposition to most of my surgeons and drs. Can’t do much about my mitochondria until the bone cement is removed, otherwise my symptoms worsen
I’m the best I’ve been. I’ve cancelled home help and can mow the lawns and do the gardens. Only 1 issue left to fix.
Unfortunately mercola knows nothing about biological responses to metals so he hasn’t got much of a clue really. I’ll stick to listening to environmental medicine specialists who study our biological responses to metals. You cant heal mitochondria until you address metal issues first so he would be a waste of my time.
This may help some, but a better solution is to Fix your Food. In a "nutshell" get rid of UP Foods.
Our foods are full of MfG's (Manufactured free Glutamates), so our bodies are overfull of the excitotoxic amino acid Glutamate. You can either reduce the free glutamate in your body, or increase the offsetting, calming amino acid GABA. That's what Lorazepam does, only in an unnatural way.
Cheers. It’s not easy. There’s a lot of low hanging fruit for surgeons, so it’s going to be hard finding one to do this as it’s much more risky than other procedures
Great idea! Finally some good advice, here. Go on a low histamine, clean, non-processed food diet. Guarantee over 50% of asthma & allergies (actually much higher) people have are due to unhealthy diets.
I can pretty much only eat red meat. I haven’t eaten processed food for decades. I don’t have asthma. I’m allergic to everything due to an adverse event.
So, no, that’s not a great idea as I’m already doing it and the thing I’m allergic to is inside my body. Only getting the bone cement removed will allow me to stop taking lorazepam. I’ve never had anxiety in my life, so perhaps that’s why I don’t need to keep increasing the dose, as they are purely to suppress my cns.
I agree it sounds like the bone cement could be causing your problem. Look up the mechanism of action of the bone cement and sometimes it will give you a clue as to what might be helpful to counteract the negative affects.
It shouldn’t have been used for the purpose it was. It had already been taken off the market according to the sales rep. I have the symptoms of bone cement implantation syndrome. Only removing it will help. I’ve done as much as I can to minimise symptoms but I’m writing to surgeons at the moment overseas in the hope one will write back and agree to remove it
Look up Ashton Manual- it tells you all the damage and how it takes years to withdrawal and still with terrible side effects and withdrawal symptoms that ruin your life. Look up Jordan Peterson’s story about his nightmare, dude. Benzo buddies. Tons of info out there if you’d do your research. People kill themselves on & trying to get off these drugs- THEY ARE TERRIBLE. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone!!!
I may not ever be coming off them so I won’t be going into withdrawal. I’ve heard plenty of nightmare stories but I also have my own experiences. Why would I base my health decisions on the health history of others.
Agree!!! Benzo turn into nightmares long-term. OP needs to do some research on withdrawal tolerance and chemical dependency, brain damage, and people who have committed suicide on these drugs only meant to be taken short-term (no longer than 1-2 weeks). I have asthma and living a benzo nightmare is NOT WORTH IT.
Not everyone commits suicide on benzodiazepines and not everyone gets brain damage. As a cns suppressant it stops my o2 saturation to 79 at times and stops me having tachycardia every minute of the day. It’s keeping me alive. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience on benzodiazepines but not everybody does. For some, they are a life saver and avoiding them puts their life at risk and shortens life expectancy. Were you prescribed them for anxiety, nerve pain, or as a cns suppressant?
I never said everyone commits suicide on benzos. But many do and so many more try or wish they were dead. EVERYONE gets brain damage on these drugs long term. Is it worth permanently damaging your brain or getting dementia??? Ask yourself that. The research & proof is out there.
I’ve already had dementia but sorted that out before I started on the cns suppressants and the dementia hasn’t come back. I think you’re someone who thinks they know more than they actually do. What you definitely fail to understand is that not everyone reacts like you do
I haven’t found it’s effects lessen over time yet. I don’t even notice any kind of narcotic effect when I take it. My o2 saturation just stops plummeting and my heart rate goes down. With codeine I’ve found I don’t need more as time goes by. In fact I’m on a lot less than I use to be. My history of long term use shows me decreasing codeine dosage. I’m hoping not to be on lorazepam forever if I can get this bone cement removed.
Actually it makes sense that this drug workers for allergies, etc. but people can’t get it. I think many drugs are like this. Not only is it out of patient, but other drugs are much for expensive.
No, but it means they know more than you whether it’s a good idea or not because they know my health history. Not everyone reacts to lorazepam like you do. You’re not an authority on the subject. You react depending on your own genetic profile
They are worth the risks if death is the outcome without them. You seem to have a problem with them but that doesn’t mean everyone has a problem with them
Go ahead and be your own guinea pig. Then you can see if you will have problems long-term. But don’t say you weren’t warned. There is a plethora of information & stories out there about the dangers about this class of drugs. I encourage anyone thinking benzos are great for anything other than short term use to do their research.
My dr prescribed them and I’ve been prescribed them in the past as a cns suppressant. You may prefer death to going on lorazepam but I certainly don’t.
Just because your Dr prescribes something doesn’t make it safe. Do your homework & take responsibility for researching a drug before you take it. I didn’t have that option because the resources weren’t there when I started on them 16 years ago. Now it’s all over the Internet and you have to be blind or not looking at all to not see it.
I’m also fighting for my life with chronic illness and benzos have only compounded the issue. You can do whatever you want to to your body but don’t encourage or suggest benzos are a wonder drug. It’s a rare person who doesn’t have long term issues and I think all do in actuality but don’t realize it’s from the benzos.
I haven’t said it is a wonder drug. You’ve assumed that by misreading the title. What makes me laugh is that you think you know about the health issues of complete strangers
I generally don’t ask people what medications they are taking, but the answer to your question is probably in the article. When the only choices are death or benzodiazepines, benzos are the obvious choice

Yes they do. The guy with asthma thought it was. I would also be dead without them
Yes they do, “what”?
What do you mean by yes they do?
You said, above- “Yes they do”. What are you referring to???
To your comment that says Nobody think taking benzos is a magic bullet for anything. I can assure you there are many that do

Yes it can

Yes, benzos are nightmares long-term. This is a very dangerous argument…
What argument are you talking about?
The argument you are making about a benzo being a “Wonder Drug”. Decades of research prove this idea invalid and a dangerous thing to promote.
I haven’t made any argument for lorazepam being a wonder drug. Did you not read the article properly. Especially the title
Did you not read the title of the article either?

Is the meat organic, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, pesticide/herbicide free? Not all meat is clean & most is highly polluted.
I think you’re a bit paranoid. I’m quite capable at my age of making the best decisions for myself
If the red meat is slow-cooked, or pressure-cooked, or spices are used, that can be problematic in some people.
Yes I can’t add spices. All plants make me worse.

Yes, it totally fucks up the GABA, causing so much damage in the body.
What damage does it cause to the body?
Here's a good place to start learning about Manufactured free Glutamates. Clink on the tabs on the left.
